November 2012 – nGimat LLC President, Andrew Hunt, will present the company’s recent results on nanocomposite superconductor wire insulation technologies at the prestigious Low-Temperature High-Field Superconductor Workshop (LTHFSW 2012) to be held in Napa Valley, CA in early November 2012. The workshop, which attracts leading scientists and engineers in the field of superconductivity, is organized by the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE). nGimat’s presentation will review the nanopowder materials and processes it has developed for coating superconducting wire with thin nanocomposite insulation layers that can provide high thermal conductivity and break-down voltages in smaller, higher-efficiency high-field magnets. These magnets play an important role in high-energy physics research and are beginning to have a large impact on the commercialization of biomedical equipment such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners. Research and development for this effort is being directed by nGimat’s senior scientist Marvis White and is being funded by the US Department of Energy (DOE).
